Marine FC raise vital funds with a penalty shootout marathon!
Recently, Alder Hey Children’s Charity has been fortunate to have been the beneficiary of some pioneering fundraising, as on the 5th April, Marine Football Club in Crosby hosted the world’s first ever penalty shootout marathon, with all the proceeds going to support the brave children and young people at Alder Hey.
The event consisted of a full marathon alongside the River Mersey, followed by a penalty shootout on the pitch of the Marine Travel Arena, the home of Marine FC. Results were recorded in both the marathon and the shootout, with over 100 people coming down to take part.
Paul Leary, Chairman of Marine Football Club, told us: “The Marine Mersey Marathon day was the first marathon & penalty shootout fundraising event to be staged in the world. Everyone at Marine was very proud to have hosted such an important fundraising event for Alder Hey Children’s Charity and to have supported the patients and families at the hospital.
Over 100 participants took part in what was a hugely successful event, and I was delighted to be able to play a little part in helping to start the run and cheering the participants on.”
It was an incredible sight to see so many people running along the iconic River Mersey for Alder Hey Children’s Charity, followed by a competitive penalty shootout which closed out a morning which was such a testament to the commitment and generosity in our local community.
Thank you so much to everyone at Marine for your support in staging this truly unique event. Your support will make a difference to so many children, young people, and families at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
