How do we pay the money we have raised after an event?

You can do this in a number of ways:

Through JustGiving

Set up your own JustGiving fundraising page - it's free to do and your sponsors will be able to pay you securely through your page. As an added bonus, we are able to claim any applicable Gift Aid from each donation.

Paying cash

If paying in cash, you will need to come in to the Fundraising Office in person to hand it over.  Do not send cash by post.  We will give you a receipt and confirm receipt of your donation by letter.

Paying over the phone

Call the Fundraising Office on 0151 252 5716 and pay by credit or debit card. We will then process this and send you a receipt of your donation by letter.

Paying by cheque

Cheques can be posted or handed in to the Fundraising Office, made payable to Alder Hey Children’s Charity. If the money has been raised by a large group of people (e.g. company, club, school) or you have secured media coverage, you may want to formally present your cheque to someone from the Fundraising Team in front of the people who supported your event, or to record the presentation with a photograph. Please feel free to ask and we will do our best to arrange this.

Paying online

Use our donation page - you will get an opportunity to let us know your money is from an event.

Or to transfer the money using BACS please contact us  for our bank details.

Do I need permission to fundraise for Alder Hey Children's Charity?

Yes.  You should contact us with details of what your fundraising event will be and when and where it will take place and also your full name and address and a contact number.   We will then send you a letter of authority on headed paper giving you permission to fundraise on our behalf.  

This enables us to keep track of all the fundraising events taking place for the Charity, but it also protects you as we can reassure people that you are genuinely fundraising for us.  It also enables us to put other volunteers and sponsors in contact with you, if appropriate.

Does having a letter of authority give permission to do street collections for money?

No. You will need to contact us to try to obtain permission for this from the appropriate Local Authority.  It is advisable to do this at least six months prior to when you want to do your collection to avoid disappointment.  Sometimes midweek dates are available.

Can I take Oli Pin Badges to sell at my event?

Yes, we can provide a limited amount on a 'sale or return' basis. Please contact us for more information.

Can a representative from the charity be at my fundraising event?

Please give us a call on 0151 252 5716 and talk to one of our team. If we are able to, we will support you!

Can you organise for a celebrity to come to my fundraising event?

Unfortunately we can't approach any of our celebrity supporters or Patrons on your behalf. However if you have a personal link to a celebrity who will be attending your event, please just let us know.

Am I covered by Alder Hey Children's Charity's insurance policy for my event?

No. We cannot provide liability insurance for anyone raising money for us.

I'm planning a sponsored parachute jump for Alder Hey. How do I go about this?

Before committing yourself to a parachute jump, it is important that you speak to one of our team.  

It can sometimes be the case that the jump costs more than the amount of money raised so the Charity receives little or nothing at all.  Under these circumstances it would be unlikely that we would give you authorisation to do a jump using Alder Hey Children’s Charity name.  However, please don't be put off ‐ talk to us and it may be that we can help you do the jump whilst also raising money.

Can you supply identity badges to prove we are fundraising for Alder Hey Children's Charity?

No.  We do not give anyone Identity Badges.  A letter of authority on headed paper is the proof we provide to fundraisers.  You can get a letter of authority by contacting us with details of your fundraising event.

What do charities do?

Charities are organisations or voluntary groups, that attempt to raise money and support those in need. Charities can support medical development for victims of disease, illness and disability, charities can be founded in memory of a loved one or a patient who has a rare condition, they can also support cases of homelessness and support those in need as well as providing care, services and support for people, groups and animals around the world. There are a wide variety of charities in the UK, each with their own cause or mission.

Why is charity work important?

Charities rely heavily on the support of the public and those who provide financial support, as well as the time and dedication of volunteers. Without such support charities would struggle to raise sufficient funds to provide help to those in need or aid the development of key medical research.

Charity work helps to raise such funds but also helps to raise awareness for the charity and those who have suffered or are currently suffering and are in need of help and support.

Why should people donate to charity?

Many people feel that they would like to support a charity due to a close connection with the cause; perhaps you, or someone you know, has been affected in some way, or it is a cause that is close to your heart. You may want to support a charity by donating your time, skills or by giving money; any of which will always be greatly appreciated. Without the support and dedication of volunteers and those who help the charity to run its services, help fundraise and offer support to those who need it, the organisation may struggle to raise enough money to make a real difference.

Why raise money for charity?

Raising or donating money, or your time or skills, to a charity that is close to your heart is a great way of giving back to your community and helping those in need. Charities help to bring people together and offer help, support and guidance for anyone who is suffering or is being affected by something negative. Raising money for charity can mean taking part in group activities and challenging yourself to do something big in the name of a worthy cause. Fundraising events help to bring people together from different walks of life with a shared interest, not to mention raising money to help further the cause.

What could I do for charity?

No matter how big or small of a donation you would like to give, whether it be your time, your skills or a financial contribution, it will always be greatly appreciated.

You could give small monthly donations or a lump sum in a will; or, if you prefer to offer your time, there are plenty of activities and fundraising events that you could help out at to show your support.

How do I decide which charity to donate to?

If you’re finding it difficult to decide which charity to support, you should pick a charity that you feel directs help to a cause you believe in and makes a real difference. It might be best to research who the charity is, what their goals are, and how they plan to achieve them first; as this could help to give you some great ideas of how you could get involved and help out.

Choosing which charity to donate to can be difficult as there are quite a lot of them around, but if you do your research and talk to family and friends first, you should be able to pick a charity that is right for you.
