Children’s Hospital Charities conquer London to Amsterdam challenge!

Last weekend, Alder Hey Children’s Charity were delighted to be among the ninety-seven fundraisers representing six children’s hospital charities from across the UK who took on the challenge of a lifetime: cycling 335 miles from London to Amsterdam, travelling through four countries on their journey to The Venice of the North.
Alder Hey Children’s Charity were represented by a strong team of twenty-nine cyclists, who, all united in their determination to make a difference at Alder Hey, kept each other motivated during the difficult challenge. In just four days, the team tackled the rolling hills of Kent, basked in the sunshine of the French coast, and enjoyed the best that Belgium had to offer, all before arriving in Amsterdam having raised £90,000 to support Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
Head of Community Fundraising, Cath Harding said:
“It was a truly amazing experience with some incredible people, with 350 miles cycled through four different countries. Thank you to everyone who took part in this fabulous event raising over £90,000 for Alder Hey.”
Following on from the London to Paris cycle challenge in 2022, this is the second time that Children’s Hospital Charitie’s have joined forces to raise vital funds for children’s hospitals across the country. Alongside fundraising teams from Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, The Children’s Hospital Charity, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity and The Grand Appeal, the challenge has raised a collective £300,000, an astonishing figure that will have such an impact on the lives of the hundreds of thousands of children and young people who are treated in children’s hospitals every year.
Running and Challenge Manager, Adam Dixon told us:
“Wow, what a week! It was such an incredible experience sharing the past 4 days on a bike with the most incredible people. I love hearing everyone’s motivation for supporting Alder Hey and completing such a tough challenge. A huge well done to all the 96 cyclists – it’s a massive achievement and something to remember for a very long time. See you all on the next one!”
Alder Hey Children’s Charity are proud to have been a part of this truly incredible challenge and to have played a profound part in an event that will make a difference for children and young people not just at Alder Hey, but across the UK. We are delighted to have once again been able to work alongside our fellow children’s hospital charities and look forward to the opportunity to continue working together in the future. We would like to send our warmest thanks to all those who took on the challenge for Alder Hey and supported our cause, your kindness and generosity will go a long way in helping us to create brighter futures for children and young people at our hospital.
