Alder Hey Children’s Charity supports Alder Hey and Liverpool Philharmonic partnership
Last week, Alder Hey Children’s Charity were delighted to support the launch of the new partnership between Liverpool Philharmonic and Alder Hey, as Alder Hey officially became a partner in Liverpool Philharmonic’s groundbreaking Music and Health programme. The programme is now in its fifteenth year and uses music as a tool to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people in the Liverpool City Region.
The partnership, which will be fully funded by Alder Hey Children’s Charity, will support the co-ordination of Alder Hey’s nationally renowned Arts for Health service, and see the introduction of thirty-six weekly music-making sessions for patients on wards, working with staff, volunteers, children, and young people across the hospital.
The partnership was launched last week with a very special performance by a string quartet from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in our hospital atrium. Patients, families, and staff all joined together to enjoy an intimate performance of well-known hits and classical pieces. Staff and patients alike both reflected on how lovely the event was, noting the calming and therapeutic effect that music can have in a busy hospital environment. We hope that with the launch of this partnership, that feeling of calmness and positivity through music can continue to reverberate through the wards and clinics at Alder Hey.
Music has the power to connect and inspire people, communities, and organisations. With the launch of this new partnership between Alder Hey and Liverpool Philharmonic, Alder Hey Children’s Charity are proud to show its continued commitment to supporting the crucial role that music plays in the patient experience that the charity helps to create at Alder Hey.
Fiona Ashcroft, Chief Executive of Alder Hey Children’s Charity said “Music and the arts is a huge part of what we do at Alder Hey to help our children and young people recover. The charity has funded the coordination of all Arts for Health projects across the hospital totalling £354,524 this year alone and we’re really proud to be able partner with such a prestigious organisation such as Liverpool Philharmonic, which has a huge impact on the community and is integral to the city of Liverpool and beyond.”
Thank you so much to our incredible donors for your continued support of Alder Hey Children’s Charity. If it was not for your support, we would not be able to fund the life-changing programmes and initiatives that we do at Alder Hey.
