Local MPs champion children’s health at Alder Hey

This month, we were delighted to welcome two local MPs to Alder Hey: Peter Dowd, MP for Bootle, and Kim Johnson, MP for Liverpool Riverside.
Each visit offered the opportunity to see first-hand how Alder Hey is leading the way in paediatric care, innovation, and family support, and to learn more about the ambitions of our Put Children First campaign.
During their tours, both MPs visited our Innovation Hub, where pioneering work in AI is helping to reshape the future of children’s healthcare and address health inequalities. They also explored our expanding campus, learning how our Mental Health Hub is supporting children and young people with complex conditions, and enjoyed a stop at our much loved cinema, which is bringing the magic and joy of film to patients and families.
As part of her visit, Kim met the team behind our Wellbeing Hub a one‑stop service funded with support from Alder Hey Children’s Charity that brings together Citizens Advice and Health Junction to provide wrap‑around practical and emotional support. From counselling to debt advice and help accessing benefits, the Hub ensures that families receive timely, joined‑up help when they need it most.
Across both visits, we discussed the urgent need for greater national prioritisation and investment in children’s health and we were grateful for both MPs’ continued backing of Alder Hey and our Put Children First campaign.
We’re incredibly thankful to Peter and Kim for their time, their engagement, and their ongoing support as champions for children’s health in Parliament. Together, we can help ensure every child has the chance to grow up healthy and thrive.
