Local students support Alder Hey with sustainable fashion show
April’s Fundraiser of the Month is a group effort, as we celebrate four Liverpool John Moores University students who as part of their degree project, held a fashion show which raised a remarkable £1000 for Alder Hey Children’s Charity. Kaydee, Caitlin, Abbie, and Molly devised the Reuse the Runway fashion show, which promoted sustainable fashion as well as the work that Alder Hey Children’s Charity does to make a difference for children and young people at Alder Hey.
After being chosen to be April’s Fundraisers of the Month, group spokesperson Kaydee told us: “We chose to raise money for Alder Hey as the hospital have helped both members of our group as well as our family. I suffer from Greig Cephalopolysyndactyly Syndrome which means I suffered severe knee dislocations in my early teens and in November 2019 at fifteen years old I had a knee trochleoplasty, tibial tubercle osteotomy and allograft MPFL reconstruction which changed my life and allowed me to go on to college and now university doing events management at LJMU. All thanks to Doctor Barton Hanson and his team, Dave McWilliams and the physio department as well as all the nurses and medical staff at Alder Hey.
Our team member Molly was also treated for seven years at Alder Hey when she was younger, and her sister Katy has been treated for sixteen years at the hospital, so when it came to choosing a charity to fundraise for Alder Hey Children’s Charity was the only choice to say thank you for all they have done for us!
Our event showcased two incredible local designers and the importance of sustainable fashion as well as Alder Hey Children’s Charity and the work they do. Our Designer PincTiger created a variety of blue looks inspired by the Alder Hey logo which were handmade and have since been donated to auction to raise even more money for the charity. Reuse the Runway was an incredibly special night for myself as well as the rest of our team: Caitlin, Abbie, and Molly as well as all our families. We are so proud to have made a difference at Alder Hey.”
Congratulations to the whole team involved with putting together this incredible event for all your hard work in making a difference at Alder Hey. Your commitment and generosity will have such an impact on our brave patients and families at the hospital. Thank you!
