Alder Hey’s Mental Health Practitioners are taking on the epic Everest Base Camp trek
Ain’t no mountain high enough…to keep our inspirational CAMHS team from supporting Alder Hey Charity!
Three of Alder Hey’s Mental Health Practitioners are taking on the epic Everest Base Camp trek later this year to raise vital funds for our hospital. Emma White, Claire Austin and Megan Shutt, who work within our CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) team, told us:
“The team that we work for provides vital mental health support across Merseyside to children and young people who are struggling, and we know just how much of a difference having well equipped and well-resourced services makes to the children and families that we work with. Children and young people are wonderfully unique and sometimes need us to think outside the box to provide the right support at the right time, and Alder Hey Children's charity help us to do just that. They can help to provide different departments with equipment, activities and projects designed to enhance and improve the lives of our amazing young patients when they are under Alder Hey's services."
Claire has worked for Alder Hey for 17 years, Meg for 5 years and Emma for 3 ½ years so they have an in depth understanding of the impact that donations to our charity have for the children and young people cared for by Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
Emma told us: “We all love to try new things and are all a little bit impulsive and sign ourselves up for things without thinking it through fully, so ended up signing ourselves up to climb the biggest mountain in the world! I am most looking forward to the incredible scenery we’ll see while we’re there! We’re all also looking forward to the fundraising but also quite nervous about this bit too. You do think about the physical strain it will put on our bodies, but we know we can do it!”
In preparation for their once in a lifetime challenge, the intrepid trekkers are already planning their training as Claire explained:
“We are hopefully going to be doing lots of lovely walks with colleagues to help us train, get up local mountains in North Wales a few times and Meg is about to set off her travels for a few months, so she will be climbing a few mountains around the world! We’re also trying to get out colleagues to stop buying in the cakes to encourage healthier eating and training!”
Megan added:
“We have decided to take on the challenge of trekking to Everest Base Camp to raise money for Alder Hey Children's Charity to help the good work keep going! We really appreciate any support you can offer, we know that sometimes that support will be a donation and sometimes that support might be sharing our page far and wide. However you can help, we really appreciate it!”
