Hundreds of Runners hit the Runway for Liverpool John Lennon Airport 5K

In the early hours of Saturday 22nd November, hundreds of energetic runners gathered in bright orange t-shirts to take part in something a little unusual in aid of Alder Hey Children’s Charity.
At 2 o’clock in the morning, minutes after the final plane of the day had landed at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, hundreds of runners took to the runway in the rain and cold to run 5k in support of the brave young children at Alder Hey.

In partnership with our corporate partners Liverpool John Lennon Airport, and sponsored by Easy Jet Holidays, this unique event sold out within days, and saw a wide array of participants, from regular park runners to first timers, all who couldn’t pass up the rare opportunity to race on a busy airport runway.
Keeping spirits high and bodies warm, Oli the Elephant led our runners through an energetic warm up, whilst the DJ played some motivational tunes. Olympian, former World Champion gymnast and Charity Champion Beth Tweddle showed her incredible dedication by joining our runners in the 5k!

The event raised a magnificent £78,043 for the 450,000 children that are treated every year at Alder Hey. Thank you so much for all our incredible sponsors, volunteers, all the staff at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, and, last but not least, our runners, who made this event so incredible!
