Staff Spotlight – Meet Katy!
Staff Spotlight: Meet Katy!
This week on Staff Spotlight we have been speaking to Katy, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser in our Corporate Fundraising Team.
Describe Alder Hey in 3 words.
A magical place.
You’re stranded on a desert island and can only bring three items, what are they?
A suitcase of snacks. I’m always hungry and I don’t fancy relying on my hunting skills. My running shoes, to keep fit and stave off the boredom. And some sort of device loaded up with Spotify. I was going to say an iPod but that might be too retro!
Who would be your most listened to artist whilst stranded?
Probably Fleetwood Mac.
What is the best thing about working at Alder Hey?
I would say a couple of things. Firstly, that no day is the same. One day I could be working on or at a fundraising event like the Dragon Boat Festival, then I might be working with a corporate company who are doing some staff fundraising, then the next day I could be working on a major campaign, like our amazing ongoing projects with Matalan. It’s a real mix which means it’s always interesting and I’m always learning.
Secondly, the people. Whether you’re talking to nurses, Play Specialists, clinical or non-clinical staff across the trust or to people in the wider charity team – everyone here is so passionate about Alder Hey and you can really feel that, whether you’re in the hospital or the office.
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and why?
To be able to breath underwater! I’d like to be able to see what’s going on under the sea, see some fish, have a swim around.
Tell us something not many people know about you.
I used to play the trumpet at school, and would get time off school to play in the local Brass Bonanza. Our biggest gig was Luton Carnival, which is where I grew up.
You’re quite new to the team – why did you want to work at Alder Hey?
Alder Hey has a magical feeling about it – everyone here is passionate and just wants to make a difference, and I really wanted to be a part of that. Working with our corporate partners to raise vital funds for the patients here, increasing awareness of Alder Hey Children’s Charity, sharing what we’re all about and making people aware of the magic that we try to create everyday is something I’m proud to be a part of.
What fundraising events do you look forward to the most?
I think probably our corporate Golf Day at Formby Golf Club. I haven’t been involved in a corporate Golf Day before, so I’m looking forward to getting involved in the planning, learning a bit more about how it all works, and meeting all our amazing clients on the day. Also it’s taking place in July, so I’m hoping for a nice sunny day.
