Join thousands of people taking on the ultimate running challenge in 2026 – the 26.2 miles of the TCS London Marathon – with every step taking you through the iconic streets of London and towards making a difference to the lives of children and young people at Alder Hey.
How to apply
Places for this event are extremely limited and so we will be holding a ballot with a closing date of Monday 14th July 2025. Successful applications will be notified on Thursday 31st July 2025.
Applying for our ballot could not be simpler. All you need to do is fill in the form attached to the ‘Register Now’ button at the top of this page. Complete all aspects of the form (including sending your up-to 60 second video) and wait for your confirmation email to arrive in your inbox. Once you have received this email then your place in the ballot is confirmed.

- Represent one of Europe’s busiest children’s hospitals on the worlds most iconic marathon stage.
FAQS
Do I need to submit a video to complete my application?
Yes, we ask that all applications include a video filmed in portrait mode and sent via WhatsApp to 07977291187. If for any reason you are unable to provide a video please contact the team who will be able to make necessary adjustments.
If I’m successful in the Alder Hey Children’s Charity ballot do I need to raise the minimum amount of £2,750?
Yes. Anyone who is successful in the ballot has committed to raise the minimum amount of £2750. We ask that all successful runners set up a online giving page and raise at least 80% 4 weeks prior to race day. You will then have 4 weeks after the event to raise the remainder.
Will there be support to help me reach my fundraising target?
Yes, the team will be on hand throughout your London Marathon journey to help you reach your target. Remember, this is your fundraising you are responsible for achieving the minimum sponsorship. We can provide you with hints, tips and promotional resources.
What training support will be provided?
We encourage all runners to sign up to Nike Run Club as this is a free service for training plans. You can also reach out to the fundraising team who will be able to help with any questions you have.
When will I find out if I am successful in the Alder Hey Children’s Charity ballot?
We will let you know that you are successful in the charity ballot on Thursday 31st July 2025.
When does the ballot close?
The Alder Hey Children’s Charity ballot closes on Monday 14th July and the London Marathon ballot will close on Friday 2nd May.
What if I receive a place in the London Marathon ballot?
Amazing! If you receive a place in the official London Marathon ballot we ask that you contact community@alderheycharity.org to let us know so we can remove you from our charity ballot. You can still choose to be a part of Alder Hey Children’s Charity London Marathon team by setting up your JustGiving page here.
Will I receive a top to run in?
Yes! You will receive one of our Alder Hey running boxes which includes a fully branded top.
Will I be notified if I’m unsuccessful in the Alder Hey Children’s Charity ballot?
Yes, we will contact all unsuccessful applicants if they are unsuccessful in the ballot.
What support will there be on the weekend of the London Marathon?
The Alder Hey Children’s Charity team will be there on the day of the marathon with a cheering point. You will be responsible for collecting your own race number from the London Marathon expo.
