Harrison conquers 22 mile walk in aid of Alder Hey!
July’s Fundraiser of the Month is 13-year-old Harrison Rylands, who raised a remarkable £1200 after taking on a 22-mile hike around Ullswater Lake in the Lake District!
Harrison, who was born with a congenital cataract in his left eye, raised the funds to support Alder Hey’s Ophthalmology department, who make a difference for thousands of children and young people at the hospital each and every year. Speaking to us after his challenge, Harrison told us:
“I have been attending Alder Hey since I was 11 days old and I am now 13. I’ve had various operations to help with my sight in that eye and will undergo a further operation in August of this year. I have received excellent care at Alder Hey and wanted to give something back to the facility to show my gratitude. I was so pleased to have completed my challenge and raised so much money for Alder Hey. We were part of a group of 30 so we had really great support in completing it. The last three miles were particularly difficult as my legs were getting tired but I wasn’t going to give up and was so proud at the end!”
Harrison came to visit us at the beginning of July to receive his photo with our big cheque and celebrate his incredible achievement. Thank you so much to Harrison and everyone who supported his throughout his fundraising journey. Without the support of incredible fundraisers like Harrison, we wouldn’t be able to make the difference that we do for children and young people at Alder Hey. Thank you!
