Thank you to The Moulding Foundation for supporting Alder Hey’s Surgical Neonatal Appeal
We are incredibly grateful to The Moulding Foundation for their generous donation of £140,640 in support of Alder Hey’s Surgical Neonatal Appeal . This gift will help to keep families together when it’s most needed by funding a fully fitted parent bedroom and cot space.
The new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will have 18 parent rooms. They are specially designed to support bonding between parents and their babies, creating a home from home environment and allowing parents to fully participate in the care and treatment journeys of their babies. The dedicated parent room is attached to the baby’s room and can either be separate from or opened to join with the clinical space, depending on the needs of the parents/baby. The room has en-suite facilities, comfortable furnishings, a smart TV and a fridge and breast pump to support mums with breastfeeding. The cot space includes innovative new technologies allowing visibility and monitoring of the baby without being inside the room, creating the silent and optimum environment, avoiding unnecessarily disturbing them. The room also has a Giraffe OmniBed incubator which has enhancements to increase the level of care and support to babies. The unit will be the first of its kind within the UK.
“Alder Hey and Neonatal care are causes very close to many members of The Moulding Foundation team. From personal experience, we understand how much this state of the art unit will benefit poorly babies and their families. We are therefore delighted to be funding a parent and cot suite at Alder Hey’s new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.’ Jodie Moulding, Founder and Trustee of the Moulding Foundation
Iain Hennessey, Clinical Director of Innovation and Consultant Paediatric and Neonatal Surgeon at Alder Hey Children's Hospital said “On behalf of everyone at Alder Hey thank you to The Moulding Foundation for your kind donation. Our new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit puts families at the centre of care by giving them their own rooms, this wouldn’t be possible without your support and commitment.”
