Wow, it’s fair to say that Alder Hey events came back with a bang this weekend!

Thank you to everyone who managed to make it to Crosby on Saturday. It was a great day of laughs, competition, sunshine and only one capsize!

We hope you enjoyed the day as much as we all did and it really was fantastic to see so many of you there with your army of supporters.

We will be able to share the professional photos taken on the day in the next couple of weeks, and we’d love to see your photos of the day on social media.

Now on to the results round up….

12. Our fab sponsors for the day and the only crew brave enough to go for a dip, Team Braithwaite earned the award for Best Fancy Dress for their miraculous transformation from rowers into swimmers 😊

11. Viking by name and nature, the Amazon Vikings put in an effort on the water which was almost as impressive as the delicious looking spread they brought with them!

10. Kudos goes to this team from Alder Hey, iDigital who battled on despite a team injury before the event even started!

9. If only we had a prize for the best team name…Dragon Our Tails from BDO were anything but, and showed the biggest improvement from 1st to last race, well done!

8. Get out of the water! The Amazon Sharks set a high bar for best fancy dress with easy to spot headgear, and (randomly), a giant dinosaur!

7. Long in the name but not long in the water, Team Longworth put in a consistent performance, with their last 2 races being exactly the same time!

6. A fast and furious crew on the water, Team Cemex rowed into 6th place with ease!

5. Back for a second year, and victors in the (unofficial) splash battle on the water, bennettbrooks sailed into 5th position after sinking their opponents!

4. Alder Hey Community Physio team, Rangers of Motion started the day as the most competitive, but just missed out on a podium place, maybe next year Rangers!

On Saturday, we witnessed a truly heroic effort from the top 3 teams in this long awaited competition to be named Alder Hey Dragon Boat Champions…

3. Putting the TEA in Team Effort, Team Bean came back for a 2nd year and rowed their way to the podium! All while keeping our thirst quenched with hot drinks and the bar. Amazing effort Team Bean, we hope to see you next year!

2. This year we welcomed newcomers Team GT who made waves across the water. Even the pro’s commented on the natural talent of this team, who stayed afloat in rough seas, which would have toppled the most competent rowers – move over Team GB!

1. Last but not least, this team really have their ducks in a row! Liv Donald Ducks flocked to Crosby with one thing on their mind, to defend their Dragon Boat Champions title. They did this in style, pretty in pink and smashed their fundraising target raising over £5,000. Brilliant effort Liv Donald Ducks, the ones to watch next year!
