Arts for Heath is music to our ears

The highest quality patient experience is music to our ears! Our Arts for Health programme means the world to us here at Alder Hey Children’s Charity and we are very grateful to the trusts and foundations that make it possible to deliver creative projects across the Alder Hey NHS Trust.

For the last 9 months, 8 musicians have been delivering music workshops on the in-patient wards and Dewi Jones mental health unit as part of a project called Music as Medicine, funded by Youth Music.  The project has been supporting children and young people to develop their own musical talents and be inspired by a professional musician. The musicians are all part of Live Music Now North West, an organisation which supports early career musicians by giving them opportunities to perform live music with disadvantaged communities.

We were proud to host a wonderful concert in the main atrium here at Alder Hey as the culmination and celebration of the project. Eight musicians came together to perform a selection of classical and pop pieces and get the audience involved too! The group performed pieces such as “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story, “Bare Necessities” from Jungle Book, the theme tune from Moana, Despacito, Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles, and classical pieces by Mozart. Watch a short film here.

Thank you to Youth Music for your fantastic support.
