Dad takes on Fathers Day challenge in memory of his daughter

This Father’s Day weekend, a group of friends took on a major challenge with a deeply personal purpose. Ste Richardson and his team completed the Way of the Roses, a 170-mile coast-to-coast cycle from Morecambe to Bridlington, in memory of his daughter Georgie, who would have turned 10 this coming September.
Georgie was born with Congenital Heart Disease on September 14th, 2015. In August 2016, she underwent open-heart surgery at Alder Hey, where it became clear her condition was more severe than initially thought. Over the next 10 weeks, Georgie underwent two major surgeries and fought with incredible strength. But at just 13 months old, she sadly passed away.
In the years since, Ste has carried Georgie’s memory with him. This year, to mark her 10th birthday, he decided to do something meaningful — both to honour her life and to give back to the charities that supported them: Alder Hey and Ronald McDonald House Charities.
The original target was to raise £10,000. But thanks to overwhelming generosity from friends, family, and supporters, that target has already been surpassed. As of this week, the team has raised over £14,000 — a new milestone, chosen to reflect Georgie’s birthday on the 14th of September.
The cycle is just one part of a wider campaign. Between January and September 2025, Ste and his team will host nine fundraising events to continue raising funds and awareness.
Every donation made helps support the families and children currently going through what Ste and his family experienced — providing housing, comfort, and critical care during the most difficult times.
This ride was for Georgie. For the care teams who were there when it mattered. And for every family who needs that same support today.
