
At Alder Hey Children’s Charity, we are dedicated to making a profound difference for patients, families, and staff at Alder Hey through our fundraising pillars of Equipment, Campus & Community, Research, Innovation and Education, and Alder Hey Magic, all making an impact for the over 1200 children and young people who use Alder Hey’s services every single day.
- Your donations have helped to fund the incredible buildings that you can see around you, such as Sunflower House, the Surgical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Same Day Emergency Care Unit, as well as the MediCinema, which you will find just inside the main entrance.
- Thanks to your kindness and generosity, £36,750,000 was allocated in 2023 to purchase two Baxter Prismaflex System machines, which are designed to support the recovery of critically ill children and young people with acute kidney injury (AKI).
- Your donations totalling £354,524 secured the continuation of our Arts for Health programme, which provides over thirty creative wellbeing classes every single week, including interactive art, music, and dance sessions that help patients reconnect with their creative passions during long stays in hospital.
- £9732 was allocated to support the Mini Mouth Care Matters initiative, which was set up after research showed that in the North West, 31% of children aged 0-5 years old have obvious signs of dental caries, which increases up to 37% when the data is isolated to Liverpool. Your donations helped to provide mouthcare packs which include a toothbrush, toothpaste, a timer and an information leaflet and are available to all patients who stay at the hospital for more than 24 hours.
- £25,000 supported the purchase of six VR headsets used to immerse patients from complex or potentially painful procedures. These state-of-the-art distraction tools are valuable to help relieve patients stress and pain whilst enabling clinicians to treat patients quickly and effectively.
- Thanks to your donations, £6500 was able to fund a ground-breaking study into the assessment of long-term outcomes of children with Hirchsprung’s disease and Anorectal malformations (ALOHA), research that has helped Alder Hey become a pivotal leader in the field.


- Your kindness allowed for £4000 to be spent on renovating the quad space at our Alder Centre, providing a tranquil space for reflection and nature for anybody affected by the death of a child.
- Thanks to your support, £50,000 was allocated to provides arts and crafts and sensory supplies for our dedicated play service team to create magical moments for children and young people across 14 wards at Alder Hey.
Your donations totalling £20 a month were used to buy age-appropriate resources for teenage and young adult patients on our oncology ward.
Donations of £5 per month were used to purchase sensory toys for our poorliest patients after undergoing surgery.
Your donations of £7 were able to fund a week of hydro sessions for a child with additional needs. These valuable sessions were aimed at disabled or premature children whose parents needed extra assistance with swimming lessons.
Your generous donations totalling £30 were used to purchase toys and games for children in Outpatients, as well as prep dolls to alleviate stress and anxiety around procedures.
