Biography

Born in Speke Liverpool. Attended Holt Grammar school which is not far from Alder hey.

Degree from London University in economics. Post grad teaching qualification from Leeds University but never taught.

Went into the car industry in 1972 in finance for 5 years but then moved into manufacturing and became the Plant Director of the Triumph factory in Speke at the ripe old age of 29. Had to close the factory and made my dad redundant who was working there – I’m all heart really!

Became Manufacturing Director for British Leyland’s four factories in Cape Town for three years. Ran the Leyland truck plants and then became MD of Leyland Daf Vans.

Appointed President of Rover North America based in Miami for 3 years in a sales and marketing role. Sales and Marketing main board appointments with Rover/Landrover and Audi which was based in Munich for 2 years. CEO of Rolls-Royce and Bentley which I resigned from on a matter of principle in 1999. Retired at 49 and have been doing non-exec roles and 96 charity year, including rebuilding a school in Somaliland and nearly 6 years with Alder Hey.

Something unknown, I attended a birthday party in Morocco with the good, the bad and the ugly. The good -Elizabeth Taylor, the King of Morocco. Henry Kissinger, Walter Cronkite. The bad – Rupert Murdoch, Robert Maxwell. The ugly -Donald Trump
