Dame Jo Williams
Biography
Born in Nottinghamshire.
1 brother who is 11 months younger and lives in Canada.
2 stepsons and 2 step grandsons aged 20 and 6.
Undertook a dual honours course and Keele and also trained as a social worker.
My decision to become a social worker was influenced by the death of a favourite Aunt that died and alcoholic.
I only practiced as a social worker for a very short time and moved into numerous leadership roles in
the public sector for the next 30 years.
In 2002, I moved to become CEO of Mencap.
My strengths are in setting strategies, leadership and delivery.
I have an absolute abhorrence of institutions and a passion to help people live in communities, adults and children.
I had a real dip in my career at CQC! Alder Hey has been life enhancing it brings me great joy.
Throughout my working life I’ve been noted for energy optimising and a positive outlook.
I love to run, cook and spend time with my family and friends.
