Defibrillator Appeal

When a child experiences a cardiac arrest every second counts.

Defibrillators can restore a normal heartbeat by sending an electric pulse or shock to the heart. For every minute a child is in cardiac arrest without CPR and access to a defibrillator, their chance of survival drops by 10%. Immediate access to a defibrillator can mean the difference between life and death.

At Alder Hey, our mission is to provide lifesaving care for some of the most clinically vulnerable children and young people in the country. To ensure the very best outcomes for our patients, it is vital that our team has access to the best equipment available. This is why we urgently need your help to fund new advanced defibrillators.

To ensure that life-saving equipment is available for us within 3 minutes of any cardiac arrest on our hospital site, the charity is raining money for 44 new defibrillators, at a cost of £4,987 each, which will be placed in every department across the Alder Hey campus.

Help Save Lives with Advanced Defibrillators

Alder Hey Children’s Charity supports the hospital to invest in the very best equipment, always reaching above and beyond core NHS specifications. The high-specification model of defibrillator we are seeking for the hospital has the following benefits:

      • Combined Patient Monitoring – Critical patients will no longer need to be transferred within the hospital with both defibrillator and patient monitor attached which makes transfer for the patient smoother and less disruptive and means that the patient monitor can be left in the bed space, ready for use by the next patient.
      • Rapid Power On and Shock Delivery – The defibrillator can turn on and be used within 5 seconds. As every second is extremely critical, the speed and efficiency of these devices will improve patient outcomes.
      • Post-Event Analysis Provision – The devices will provide important debrief information about each usage, such as depth and rates of compressions, for the resuscitation team to further staff education which will in turn lead to better patient outcomes.

Enhanced technology will create a seamless flow of healthcare, supporting our hard-working staff and creating better experiences for patients and families.

We believe that every family deserves the best experience at Alder Hey. With the support of people like you, we can provide state-of-the-art equipment that ensures the highest standards of care, and the very best clinical outcomes.
