We have Roosts available for adoption!

Hand painted wooden birds, animals and characters

If you’ve visited Alder Hey, you’ll have seen Roost – our stunning hanging sculpture featuring hand painted wooden birds, animals and characters, imagined and designed by artist Lucy Casson.

We have made our Roost creatures available for adoption. There are just 100 uniquely crafted creatures available – one to symbolise each year of Alder Hey’s 100 year history before we opened Alder Hey in the Park – and your adoption is for life!

Adopting an Alder Hey creature - what you'll get

  • A home for life at Alder Hey for your adopted creature – and of course, you can name it!
  • Your contribution, story and chosen name listed in our online Roost gallery (optional)
  • A high resolution image of your adopted creature emailed to you
  • The knowledge your adoption is directly helping to support young patients at Alder Hey. This could be anything from funding vital research to enjoyable arts programmes which entertain and distract patients during their treatment.

An adoption costs £500 and is available through our online shop and gallery, where you can read the stories behind each adoption. Each donation goes towards our Arts Fund bringing magical, creative opportunities to children across the Alder Hey family.

"I see these fantastical beings, birds and animals I have created inhabiting the hospital, as if the people have left and they are running, climbing ,sitting and roosting in the spaces."

Dave Houghton is an Alder Hey project manager. Dave lived and breathed the Alder Hey in the Park project and worked closely with young people throughout the build to make sure their ideas were listened to. During the final stages of the build, Dave adopted the first creature to be installed on the Roost, naming her Bev in memory of his wife.
