Helping your family build healthy, happy smiles

Alder Hey Children’s Charity and Home Bargains have joined forces to support families in building healthy toothbrushing habits and improving children’s oral health. Together, we want to make good oral care simple, accessible and enjoyable for families.

About the Partnership and Toothbrush Set

Our child-friendly toothbrush set has been designed to make daily brushing easier and more fun. The toothbrush features soft bristles, an easy-grip handle and a bright, playful design. The toothpaste is suitable for children aged 3+, contains fluoride to help maintain strong teeth and fresh breath, and supports everyday oral care.

For children aged 6 and under, a pea-sized amount of toothpaste is recommended, with supervised brushing to minimise swallowing, and no more than a smear of toothpaste for children below 3 years of age.

By working together, Alder Hey and Home Bargains are helping families create healthy, happy smiles — at home, in the community and in hospital.

Healthy Habits for Happy Smiles from Alder Hey

  • Drink plain water or milk

Plain water and milk are the best everyday drinks for strong, healthy teeth.

  • Keep sugary drinks and foods to mealtimes only

Keeping sweet treats to mealtimes only helps reduce the risk of tooth decay and keeps little smiles healthier for longer.

  • Brush your teeth twice a day: before bed and at least one other time

Brushing before bed removes the day’s food and plaque, giving teeth vital protection overnight. The second daily brush helps keep teeth clean and reduces the build-up of harmful bacteria.

  • Spit out toothpaste after brushing, rather than rinsing

After brushing, encourage your child to spit out any extra toothpaste but not to rinse their mouth with water. This allows the fluoride in the toothpaste to stay on the teeth for longer, giving them the best possible protection.

  • Visit the dentist regularly

Regular dental check-ups help spot problems early and ensure your child’s teeth are developing as they should
