Youth Voice Project Launches at Alder Hey
Alder Hey Children’s Charity is proud to announce the launch of the Youth Voice project. This project will support children and young people who volunteer through Alder Hey’s three youth participation groups to develop new transferable skills and life experiences so that they can thrive in the future.
This project has been made possible thanks to generous funding from longstanding supporters of Alder Hey, the independent charity John Laing Charitable Trust and John Laing, a leading international investor and active manager of core infrastructure assets.
We spoke to Alex Jones, one of the Youth Forum Leads at Alder Hey about the difference this new project will make:
“At Alder Hey we are a key stakeholder in our local community. Our youth participation groups allow children and young people to have their voices heard across Alder Hey so that they can make a positive difference to the lives of patients in the future. We currently have three active groups across Alder Hey, The Forum which represents all areas of Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, the Camhelions and Transform who represent our Sefton and Liverpool CAMHS. The inspiration for the Youth Voice project came from our participation group members who told us they had concerns about making the transition into adulthood. Many of our children and young people face multiple barriers to participation in mainstream activities which can impact on their future life chances. Through Youth Voice we will provide a programme of vocational training and skills development opportunities, inspiring them to grow and develop, both personally and as members of their local communities. Youth Voice is a really exciting project as it will be led by our children and young people who will work together to develop and shape content. We are very grateful to everybody at John Laing Charitable Trust and John Laing for their support and for making this very important project happen.”

Helen Parker, Trust Director at John Laing Charitable Trust said:
“John Laing Charitable Trust is delighted to support young people reaching their goals through life skills and personal development opportunities. We are excited to partner with Alder Hey Children’s Charity as one of the Trust’s main aims is to help young people build their own futures.”
Jamie Christmas, Acting Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of John Laing, added:
“We are proud to be involved in the Youth Voice project, which will equip children and young people with skills and experiences that will help set them up for success in later life.”
