In January 2018, The Postcode Community Trust granted £19,856 to Alder Hey Children’s Charity to develop a Community Room in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital’s new Alder Centre; a dedicated bereavement centre in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital which supports over 2,000 families and individuals each year coping with the loss of child, through counselling, a helpline, holistic therapies and training.

Peer support is transformational in the grieving process of those coping with the loss of a child, but it is not continually offered in any other dedicated bereavement centre in the North West. The Community Room will bring together over 600 bereaved individuals annually who attend The Alder Centre.

This generous grant from The Postcode Community Trust will allow the charity to fully furnish the Community Room within the new Alder Centre. This will include soft-furnishings, comfortable seating and soft lighting; privacy screens; relaxation equipment including a massage chair and yoga mats; sensory equipment, a music system, and IT equipment for creative projects.

“We are absolutely delighted that The Postcode Community Trust and the players of The People’s Postcode Lottery are supporting Alder Hey Children’s Charity with a grant to develop the Community Room in our new, bespoke bereavement centre. This funding from The Postcode Community Trust will make a huge difference to so many families and we are incredibly grateful to the players of The People’s Postcode Lottery for their support.”
