Training for a 10K

As far as 10K races go, the Standish Hall Trail Race is a little different. Whilst it still covers a six-mile distance, the terrain is likely to be muddy underfoot with hills and even rivers, so it’s definitely something that requires a little more training. If this is your first trail race, it’s worth completing a run off-road beforehand, so that you’re used to running on different surfaces other than concrete. Your time will also be a little different – don’t be disheartened if it takes longer than your usual 10k as you will need to look where you’re putting your feet and will likely be running slower on steeper hills. For this type of 10k route, you’ll also benefit from wearing supportive trail running shoes rather than your usual running footwear. It might also be worth packing energy gels or chews for a bit of extra fuel on the way round. Running a trail race is a great experience and as long as you’ve completed sufficient training, there’s no doubt you’ll enjoy the day!
