Take part in the Liverpool Spring 10K and raise funds for Alder Hey. This 10k race takes in some of Liverpool’s most iconic sites, such as the Anglican Cathedral and Sefton Park. Organised by Mersey Races, the Liverpool Spring 10K is part of a weekend-long festival of running that includes a 5K race and 1K kids race.  

Taking place on Sunday 5th May 2019, the Liverpool Spring 10K is a popular charity run, with runners of all abilities taking part. If you are a first time 10K runner, this race is a great place to start. With a mostly flat course, the Liverpool Spring 10K starts at the Metropolitan Cathedral and ends at the Anglican Cathedral, taking in Princes Park and Sefton Park on the way.

If you want to complete a charity 10K, training will be vital. A 10K race is 6.2 miles, and on average, a healthy, injury free, trained runner will take about an hour to complete a 10K race. If you are new to running, give yourself at least eight to ten weeks of training in the lead-up to the event. Ideally, you would run 3-4 times a week whilst training to ensure you are at your best by the time of the race For more training inspiration take a look at our 10K training page.

Of course, you don't have to run the whole route, you can take breaks and walk if you wish. There are plenty of water stops on the way and if you are finding it hard going, there will be people cheering you on from the sidelines and a band playing at intervals along the route to help keep your morale up. All runners will get a shiny gold-look medal and a training t-shirt.

Liverpool Spring 5K

On Saturday 4th May 2019, the Liverpool Spring 5K takes place. Ideal for runners of all abilities, the 5K race is the one to sign up for if you don't feel ready to take on a 10K. It is also perfect for families to run together, or for those who want to ease back into running after a prolonged period away from the sport.  

The Liverpool Spring 5K route takes place in Liverpool’s beautiful Sefton Park. Like the 10K, there will be bands playing, water stations and people cheering you on along the route. Everyone taking part will get a shiny gold-look medal in the shape of Sefton Park's Palm House and a training t-shirt.

If you have a child who wants to try out running, why not bring them along to the Kids 1K? At the biggest kids’ fun run on Merseyside, all the family is welcome to take part, including parents, grandparents, toddlers and babies. Also taking place in Sefton Park, this race is all about having fun and there will be medals for all the kids who take part.

  4. Spread the word! Use your social networks and community organisations to let people know what you're doing using the hashtag #TeamAlderHey.
  5. The money that you raise will go towards supporting both lifesaving facilities and cutting-edge research into childhood illnesses. Without these vital funds, we wouldn't be able to make such a difference in the lives of so many children.
