Staff Spotlight – Meet Kaitlin!
Staff Spotlight: Meet Kaitlin!
This week on Staff Spotlight we have been speaking to Kaitlin, Corporate Fundraising Assistant in our Corporate Fundraising Team.
Describe Alder Hey Children’s Charity in 3 words.
Innovative, quirky, and fun.
You’re stranded on a desert island and can only bring three items, what are they?
Robinson’s Peach and Barley squash, a Kindle, and a tiny USB fan.
Have you read anything good on your Kindle recently?
I’ve just finished a book called Preloved which, fittingly, is a beautiful book about the sense of community that can found be within a charity shop
What is the best thing about working at Alder Hey?
I really enjoy working with such a wide variety of companies, a lot of which I may not have otherwise come across. I meet lots of interesting people and learn about jobs that I never knew existed. There’s a lot of variety and it means that you’re always learning.
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and why?
To be able to fly, so I could get to work quicker.
Tell us something not many people know about you.
I’m scared of flying (I’m hoping that my superhero flying powers don’t evoke the same fear as airplanes do!), and recently attended a fear of flying course, which involved flying around the skies of Manchester for an hour. It was scary, but better than never being able to go on holiday!
I also used to run a music magazine called ‘Zine’ in Liverpool which led to some really cool features, namely interviewing and photographing Wolf Alice and Sam Fender.
You’re quite new to the team – why did you want to work at Alder Hey?
Having attended university and lived in Liverpool for a few years, Alder Hey had been on my radar for a while – especially after seeing all the Oodies in Matalan! As soon as the job popped up I knew I wanted to apply. I’d previously worked at a blood cancer charity based in London, and knew I wanted to continue my career in the charity sector – I couldn’t be happier that I’m doing so at Alder Hey.
What fundraising events do you look forward to the most?
The Dragon Boat Festival. I’ve seen photos from previous events and it looks immense. Also there’s a chance we’ll be able to get on a boat this year which I’m very excited about.
