Staff Spotlight – Meet Ellie!
Staff Spotlight: Meet Ellie!
This week on Staff Spotlight we have been speaking to Ellie, Corporate Partnerships Manager in our Corporate Fundraising Team.
Describe Alder Hey in 3 words.
I would describe Alder Hey in 3 words as family, togetherness and, although it might sound a bit cheesy, magic.
You’re stranded on a desert island and can only bring three items, what are they?
Firstly, SPF. I burn like there’s no tomorrow and it’s very important to protect your skin. I wear factor 50 every day of the year as it’s the best proven anti-aging treatment!
Secondly I would take a kindle with an unlimited subscription to Amazon.
It’s along the same lines, but the third thing I take would be a device with an endless supply of Spotify. I was going to say can I also take headphones but I suppose if I’m stranded on a desert island I wouldn’t need them. I’ve not quite figured out the wi-fi and battery life issues yet.
What is the best thing about working at Alder Hey?
Alder Hey is about family. The hospital, the Charity team, we really do all get stuck in and come together during big campaigns and big moments to make amazing things happen. Everyone is really supportive of each other, passionate about what we do, and everyone celebrates the little wins within our individual roles, which is a really lovely feeling and a great thing to be a part of.
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and why?
I’d just like to be taller! At 4’11’’ I don’t think it’s too much to ask! My colleague Becky always comments that if I were taller I’d be unstoppable!
Tell us something not many people know about you.
I’m a bit of an over-sharer so most people already know most things! I did play rugby for the island of Guernsey, which is where I grew up, from the ages of 6 – 11.
What’s been your work highlight to date?
There really are too many to count, but for me seeing campaigns in store is a big highlight. I work on a lot of retail partnerships, for example Matalan and P&G and B&M, and to see what has been months and months of discussion, strategy and planning come to life, especially when that’s involved patients, families and our clinical colleagues from the hospital, is really magical. Being able to physically touch and hold the culmination of a lot of hard work, in stores across the nation, with input from people right across the hospital, is amazing.
What fundraising events do you look forward to the most?
I love getting involved in all of our amazing events across the year, but it must be said, I love the Dragon Boat Festival. Last year I got in a boat, we came third, it was so much fun – what better way to spend a day in May?
