Max makes a splash

Seven-year-old Max makes a splash for young patients at Alder Hey

It’s time to announce our Fundraiser of the Month for March... drumroll please!

Congratulations and thank you to Max Willets from St Helens.

Inspired to fundraise for Alder Hey, Max set himself a challenge to swim 5km in March. As a new member of St Helens Swimming Club, the target of 200 lengths in the 25m pool was no mean feat for the thoughtful seven-year-old, but Max heroically surpassed his target racking up the 200 lengths by Mother’s Day – 12 days early!

With the support of friends and family, Max raised an impressive £410.00. Max was thrilled with his medal which we presented to him at a cheque presentation, and he very kindly brought in lots of Easter chocolate and sweets for patients too!

Max’s mum, Nicola said: “What an honour it is for Max for this to happen, thank you so very much. He hasn't expected anything in return for this and even donated some of his own money so this is amazing recognition for him. His dad promised him he'd donate £1 for every extra length over that he swam until the end of March and he swam around another 50 lengths! He completely smashed his target which we even thought he'd need help with. He's our little superstar and I'm so glad he's been chosen for this. He's so proud of himself as we are of him too!”

Every penny raised by our incredible supporters like Max helps to provide added extras at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital to make it as fun and child friendly as possible. Donations also help us to invest in the latest technology and research studies to help create a bright future for children and young people.

Thank you for your dedication to the brave young patients who need our care and expertise.
