February’s Fundraiser of the Month is 4-year-old Lincoln from St Helens

Lincoln is Fundraiser of the month!

Lincoln and his Mum decided that they wanted to give something back to our charity after Lincoln had two open heart surgeries at Alder Hey. Lincoln and his mum Tanya asked his school, Parish C of E in St Helens, if they would get involved and raise some money during Congenital Heart Defect Week. Lincoln’s school hosted a Wear Something Red Day and his nursery classmates had a Red Party Day. They old red ribbons, cookies and sweets and managed to raise an incredible £500.

Lincoln’s dad also arranged a collection at work raising an extra £40 towards Lincoln’s fundraising total. Thank you to everyone at Halfords in St Helens for chipping in!

Lincoln’s Mum, Tanya, told us

“Lincoln has a complex Congenital Heart Defect and Heterotaxy Syndrome RAI and has been under Alder Hey's care from day one - without them he wouldn't be alive today. I can't thank Alder Hey and their cardiac team enough for what they have done for our son and how well they have looked after him during his numerous stays and appointments so far. They have given us almost four and half years with him and hopefully many more.
Arranging this fundraiser on behalf of Lincoln and our family is a way for me to say thank you to not only his Cardiologist, Dr Lim, the surgical team, Ward 1C and 2.2, but all the staff within Alder Hey. We always feel very well looked after and have as positive an experience one can have in a hospital.”

After hearing that Lincoln was being recognised as our Fundraiser of the Month for February, Tanya added:

“I wasn't aware Lincoln was getting Fundraiser of the Month until we had our photo with the big cheque. I almost cried! I'm so proud of him and how far he has come so far. He loves his medal and certificate, and it has given him another positive experience of Alder Hey in time for his next surgery which he will be having soon. For me as his mum this has been a major bonus because he's undergone nine months of numerous tests which had set him back to where he didn't want to come to the hospital for fear of more needles and stickers (ECG). He is finally in a good place and even excited when he knows he's coming to Alder Hey again.
I really can't thank Alder Hey's Children's Charity enough too for the help, the big cheque, medal and certificate also our fundraising pack. I also want to thank Parish C of E Primary School especially the Nursery staff who went above and beyond in making it special for Lincoln, for helping raise money and spread awareness for Congenital Heart Defect.”

Thank you Lincoln! You are a huge inspiration to us all and we are so proud of you, your amazing mum and all your family and friends. Dr Joyce Lim asked us to pass on a message too:

Well done to Lincoln, his parents and all who supported his family.  Please thank Lincoln and his family - on behalf of the cardiology and cardiac surgical team - for his amazing fundraising effort! And for thinking of Alder Hey.”
