Hundreds of glamourous ladies celebrated Royal Ascot Ladies Day at Alder Hey’s Alternative Ascot held at the world famous Aintree racecourse recently.
Alternative Ascot is a fun filled day where participants are able to dress up and enjoy live racing from Ascot beamed on giant TVs, a two course lunch, live entertainment, a disco, stand-up bingo and a ‘Best Dressed’ competition all to help raise funds for Alder Hey.
Alternative Ascot began back in 1998 after 10 friends missed their train to go to Ascot races. They instead decided to watch the races at home and had such a good time it has become one of the highlights of the racing calendar.
This year’s event, sponsored by Tangle Teezer, attracted nearly 500 people and raised over £60,000 for lifesaving equipment and vital research for Alder Hey Children’s Charity.
Helen Hughes, Event Fundraising Manager for Alder Hey Children’s Charity said:
“Everyone had such a fun day. I would like to thank all of our sponsors including Tangle Teezer, Espa International, Vita Liberate, Clarins and all our guests for supporting Alder Hey and for their incredible generosity.
“Alternative Ascot gets bigger each year and funds raised at this year’s event will make a huge difference to our patients and families. We can’t thank everyone enough for coming along.”
Shaun Pulfrey, Inventor and Founder of Tangle Teezer who sponsored this year’s event said:
“A great cause, a great event and great dancing! I thoroughly enjoyed and was immensely proud of being part of Alder Hey’s Alternative Ascot. To find out about the work Alder Hey do and to meet those involved and hear about the new innovation available in the hospital was out of this world. Raising money for this charity has never been so much fun.”
Joan Hayden from Thornton won the Best Dressed title and had a fantastic day:
“It felt fabulous to win the Best Dressed award, but we don’t come for that – it’s a great day out and we are all supporting the Charity.”
Every year Alternative Ascot becomes more and more popular so if you want to sign up to next year’s event please hurry. Email [email protected] to do so.
