This is Isabelle and Alayna along with little sister Lottie. The two older girls are being treated at Alder Hey for Cystic Fibrosis (CF).
The condition is progressive, meaning that as an affected child gets older, their lungs become increasingly damaged and they may eventually require a lung transplant.
Living with CF means that Alyana and Isabelle’s parents have to be that extra bit more cautious. Isabelle has to eat lunch with the teacher at school every day so that they can give her medication, but she gets to take a friend, so she’s made to feel extra special. Holiday’s also mean a lot more preparation and they have to be extra careful about where they play, no mud or hay which are filled with bugs.
Leaving a legacy is an increasingly popular way to give something back to a good cause. Put simply, it’s a gift that you leave write into your Will for the charity of your choice.
Of course, there are plenty of reasons to consider leaving a legacy when writing your will, and Isabelle and Alayna and all the other children with Cystic Fibrosis are just one, but here are three more:
1. It’s easy
Leaving a legacy isn’t complex or time consuming. In fact, your solicitor will take care of this on your behalf. There isn’t endless paperwork or a list of requirements to meet. Leaving a legacy is as simple as adding one more sentence to your Will.
2. It makes financial sense
Leave a gift to charity in your will and its value will be deducted from your estate before inheritance tax is calculated. Better yet, leave 10% or more of your estate to charity and the inheritance tax applied to your estate could be reduced to as little as 36%.
Leave a legacy up to seven years before you pass and it could qualify for exemption.
3. Your generosity will benefit a generation
Legacies can make an amazing difference and legacies left to Alder Hey will benefit a generation of children and families. It is a wonderful gift which will ensure that the world you leave behind benefits from your kindness.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a regular fundraiser or not; it’s never too late to do something good for children like Isabelle and Alayna.
