A question. What do you get when you get when 30 teams descend on the Lake District to take on a triathlon with a twist?
The answer - 168 tired bodies, but a great atmosphere and plenty of happy faces. And happy they should be, because they'd not just conquered our Alder Hey Coniston Challenge, but they had raised many thousands of pounds in the process.
Teams return year after year to tackle this unique charity event - a 10km hilly hike, 17km forest bike ride and 3km kayak across Coniston Water - and this year we welcomed teams from companies including Appsense, DHL, Novellis, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, David Wilson Homles, Faithful & Gould, Shop Direct and QVC.
Lime Pictures, makers of Channel 4's Hollyoaks, entered a remarkable six teams including cast members Jennifer Metcalfe and Ashley Taylor Dawson came along to take the challenge.
Helen Hughes, Fundraising Manager at Alder Hey Children's Charity said "On behalf of Alder Hey Children’s Charity I would like to thank all the teams for their fantastic support. We had a fantastic weekend, all the teams were amazing and make the event so much fun. A minimum of £50,000 will be raised from this year’s Challenge and will go towards our fundraising appeal helping thousands of Alder Hey patients in the future."
Congratulations to the teams who completed each section of the challenge in the fastest times:
- Bike - Technical Treckers
- Hike - Technical Treckers
- Kayak - Turley RB 2
- Overall winners - Technical Treckers
- Team of the Day - Lime Pictures, for most teams entered by one company
