Thousands raised in memory of Isla Joan

Staff at BMI Healthcare, Cheadle have raised an absolutely fantastic £4,356.70 for Alder Hey Children’s Charity.  The money was raised in memory of Isla Joan, daughter of Jo and Dave who work at the company, who was treated at Alder Hey.

Jo and Dave started their fundraising with a 50 mile bike ride challenge from Blackpool Tower to the Red Lion pub in Whitworth, Lancashire, raising £2,000. ‘Team Isla’ then took part in the Great Manchester Run in 2014 and 2015 and were brilliantly supported by their colleagues at BMI Healthcare.  The staff really got behind the fundraising with some great ideas including a Halloween bake sale and scary movie night as well as taking on the Oli the Elephant Collection Box Challenge.

Jo said: “Isla Joan passed away in June 2014 at 12 weeks old.  Isla spent the first 6 weeks of her life in Alder Hey Hospital.  Her journey began when she had a five hour major heart surgery to correct TAPVR (Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return).

The following four weeks were very traumatic for us all but with the help of our family and friends, and the amazing support of Alder Hey we managed to get through.  At just four weeks old Isla was diagnosed with PVOD (Pulmonary Veno-Occlusive Disease) and it was at this point we decided that we had to come home and make some lovely memories.

All our lovely memories would not have been made possible if it wasn’t for the amazing surgeons, doctors and nurses at Alder Hey.  David and I have such a good support network from all our family and friends to our colleagues at work.  This really does go to show from the amount of money raised in memory of our beautiful baby daughter Isla Joan.”

Hayley Weaver, Corporate Fundraiser, said “We really appreciate the support from BMI Healthcare.  It’s such an important time for us at Alder Hey as we are moving into our new hospital this year so every penny will help us to make this a world class facility.  I would like to thank Jo, Dave and their colleagues for all their hard work.”
