Brave patient’s amazing gift towards our Haemodialysis Appeal

We would like to say a huge thank you to 6-year-old Shaemus, who has raised a remarkable £2000 for our haemodialysis appeal! Shaemus, who has been receiving daily dialysis treatment for the past 6 months at Alder Hey, was inspired to fundraise for our appeal after he saw himself on the Alder Hey appeal video and decided that he wanted to help Alder Hey to get a new machine that could help all the other renal patients just like him.
But Shaemus isn’t the only inspiration in his family. His dad, Kieran, is currently undertaking the necessary preparations for a transplant operation in the very near future, after being found to be a positive match with Shaemus and bravely volunteering to undergo the procedure, with the hope of giving Shaemus a chance at the bright future that he deserves.
After help from his friends and family, who organised a variety of fundraising events, such as car boot sales and raffles, Shaemus reached his £2000 goal, with Kieran telling us how Shaemus was: “[…] more than happy to know that he raised almost a fifth of what is needed for the machine.”
Laura Beard, one of our Senior Renal Nurses at Alder Hey, said: “We are so grateful to Shaemus, as well as his family and friends for fundraising such an amazing amount of money for our haemodialysis appeal. Shaemus has daily dialysis treatment at Alder Hey and therefore knows just how important this machine is for him and all the other patients who rely on this therapy until they can undergo a transplant operation. Thank you so much for your support!”
Shaemus isn’t planning to stop fundraising anytime soon however, with Kieran also telling us that a couple of particularly daring friends and family members are taking part in a half marathon and even a sky dive to raise further funds for our haemodialysis appeal – how amazing!
Thank you to Sheamus and all his friends and family for their incredible support of our haemodialysis appeal! It is thanks to the continued support of our donors that we can continue to make a difference for all the wonderful patients at Alder Hey like Shaemus.
