The BMW Berlin Marathon is celebrating a big anniversary in 2024 – as one of the world’s most iconic marathons celebrates its 50th birthday!
The BMW Berlin Marathon always proves to be a popular entrant in the Marathon Tours & Travel calendar, and 2024 promises to be the busiest of the lot as runners get set to take part in a special race with plenty on offer to celebrate…
2023’s BMW Berlin Marathon was certainly an event to remember, as Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa smashed the Women’s Marathon World Record in only her third ever marathon. The 26-year-old ran a time of 2:11:53, taking over two minutes off Brigid Kosgei’s record set in 2019. Berlin has been home to some incredible marathon runs, most recently being the location of Eliud Kipchoge’s World Record smashing run in the Men’s event in September 2022, which was only beaten by Kelvin Kiptum in September 2023!
What sort of events will take place at Berlin Marathon 2024?
BMW Berlin Marathon hosts a festival of events that make your entire time in the German capital a worthwhile visit. The BMW Berlin Marathon expo is held inside Berlin Tempelhof, a former airport located close to the centre of the city that closed as an airport in 2008 and has since been repurposed in typical Berlin fashion as an events facility. The 2024 expo looks set to be even bigger, as sponsors, manufacturers and tour operators prepare to celebrate the event’s 50th anniversary. The vast expanse of the former airfield has been converted in to a park, perfect for some pre-marathon training.
The finish line is located at the iconic Brandenburg Gate, a lasting reminder of the long, divided history of this iconic city and a sign of the progress the city has made in the past 40 years. Along the route of the 2024 BMW Berlin Marathon, you’ll pass some more icons of the city including the world-famous Reichstag building, along the beautiful Kurfurstendamm and through the vibrant Potsdamer Platz. This marathon is more than just a marathon, it’s an opportunity to see one of Europe’s most metropolitan and exciting cities whilst being cheered on by thousands!
