Alba

Alba was born with Transposition of the Great Arteries (a severe heart condition) and transferred straight to Alder Hey at birth. She went on to have immediate heart surgery at one hour old, then open heart surgery at 8 days and multiple other surgeries too. Alba lived at Alder Hey until she was 5 and a half months old. 

Alba’s mum, Alejandra, said: “Without the amazing staff at Alder Hey, Alba would not be here today. This is why we as a family love to raise money for the charity, and hospital, that holds such a special place in our hearts. Back in 2018 we held a Fun Day where we raised over £3,000 for Alder Hey and another heart charity. Alba’s nursery also raised over £1000 in February 2022 for Heart Month.” During December 2023, Alba and her family held a Toy Appeal and took all the toys to the ward for the children who would be in hospital over the Christmas period. 

Alba’s mum told us: “Alder Hey holds a very special place in our hearts. We love coming for check ups as its a place that makes us feel at home. The staff and charity always remember Alba and are always so loving and welcoming. Usually a hospital is a scary place, but Alder Hey never feels scary. It is a magical place.”
