It’s no secret that COVID-19 has turned the world upside down and at Alder Hey Children’s Charity, we’re really trying hard to continue to fund our fantastic hospital, research programmes and other initiatives, despite the challenges faced as a result of the ongoing pandemic.
How has the current pandemic affected our charity?
With the NHS under an immense amount of strain, we can’t thank the hospital staff and volunteers enough, for working tirelessly day in, day out, to continue to ensure our patients get the care they need. With hospital admissions at an all-time high, we have had to adapt our hospital to accept patients that would normally be admitted elsewhere. As a result, Alder Hey’s Children’s Hospital has been left with no choice but to triple its intensive care capacity, which has understandably put us under a huge amount of strain. Now, more than ever, we urge you to carry out your fundraising efforts, be that virtually or with a member of your household or support bubble, because we need your support!
COVID-19 has also significantly affected the way in which funds can be raised for our charity. From bake sales to coffee mornings, or fitness challenges and obstacle courses, under normally circumstances the possibilities and options for fundraising are endless. However, with social distancing measures and other government guidelines in place, we’re having to come up with new and exciting ways for our supporters to come together and still raise money – at a time when we need it most!
How can I still fundraise during the pandemic?
Fortunately, there are still a few different ways that you can fundraise for our charity that will not only help Alder Hey Hospital at such a crucial time but can also create a sense of community spirit during a period when many people feel isolated and alone. So, if you would like to help Alder Hey during the COVID-19 pandemic (and also challenge yourself in the process!) then why not give fundraising from home a go? From virtual runs and fitness challenges that you can be sponsored for, to our very own Million Miles challenge that will definitely increase your step count as you help us reach a whopping one million miles, there are plenty of opportunities to keep busy whilst spending more time at home and under restrictions. In order to be sponsored by close family and friends, you can easily set up your very own Facebook sponsorship page or you can head over to Alder Hey on Enthuse, a fantastic fundraising platform, where you can even virtually meet like-minded people who are also looking to fundraise for Alder Hey.
